Like all Newfoundland owners will tell you, they are addictive and you can never have just one. Our family has since grown and we presently share our home with 22 gentle giants.
We are a registered kennel with the Kennel Union of Southern Africa, committee members of the Newfoundland Dog Association of Gauteng and active members of various dog clubs.
We enjoy dog showing and try to attend as many shows as possible every year, we only actively started showing in 2003 and we are very proud of our achievements to date. We have made up and bred many champions to date, we bred the first Newfie bitch to become an International champion in SA.
We bred our first litter in 2002 and have bred 15 litters so far ( Dec 2010). Our pups are raised in the puppy room in the house with 24 hour care, we even have cameras installed to monitor their every move should we be out the room for a few minutes. Pups are de-wormed every two weeks until they leave our care at ten weeks of age. During this time they are vet checked regularly, vaccinated, micro-chipped and exposed to as many sounds as possible.
Our dogs are house dogs, they all enjoy the great outdoors during the day and all sleep indoors at night. Our kennels are exclusively for in season bitches during the day and visiting dogs. Newfies by nature are family dogs and happiest when they can be a part of the family at all times.
If you are ever in the Pretoria area and would like to visit the Duramti family please feel free to give us a ring to arrange a visit.
Duramti Newfoundlands
It is not known when the breed arrived in Newfoundland, but in 1732 fishermen used large bear-like dogs to help drag nets and pull carts. The Newfoundland is a stately, strong, and massive dog with a broad heavy head.
We offer a full veterinary service at our hospital. This includes medicine, surgery, dentistry, micro-chipping, exotic animal care and limited grooming and boarding services for your pet.
